Sports careers fair to be held at WSU Everett

The College of Education’s sport management program is teaming up with WSU Everett to host the Careers in Sport Fair at that campus on Dec. 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

“The goal of the fair is to introduce our undergraduate and graduate sport management students to a variety of sport career options,” said Tammy Crawford, a clinical assistant professor within the program. “Sport professionals will help students learn the importance of various experiences, better understand what working in sport looks like on a day-to-day basis, and allow students to envision their own career path.”

This is the first time the program has teamed up with WSU Everett, and as its chancellor Paul Pitre said, it just made sense.

“We are excited to welcome Sport Management to Everett because the opportunity for us to collaborate and build something here is tremendous,” Pitre said. “We already have so many interns and alums active here, it makes a lot of sense for us to work together. Beyond that, it is feels good to be able to collaborate with my college, the College of Education.”

In addition to WSU students, students from Seattle University’s graduate program, as well as the University of Washington’s Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership graduate program, have been invited. Additionally, students from local community colleges are encouraged to participate.

In the spirit of collaboration, opening remarks will be offered by Erin O’Connell, the University of Washington’s senior woman’s athletic administrator, followed up by individuals representing Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, Everett Community College Athletics, Seattle Mariners, Sounders FC, Seattle Storm, Everett AquaSox, Seafair, Special Olympics, and more.

A few highlights for the day include former Cougar athlete Colin Henderson presenting “Master Your Mindset”, as well as HR specialist from the Mariners and Sounders teaching participants how to navigate an application process, including resume writing, cover letters, and interview tactics.

“The day will be devoted to students being able to hear from experts in community and university recreation, analytics, event operations, corporate partnerships, marketing and fan engagement, and general sport administration,” Crawford said. “This truly is a unique opportunity for not only our students, but for friends from other institutions, to learn more and to be inspired.”
