Department of Kinesiology and Educational Psychology
A message from our chair, Phyllis Erdman
Welcome to the Department of Kinesiology and Educational Psychology. Our department offers undergraduate degrees in kinesiology and sports medicine, and graduate degrees in athletic training and educational psychology.
As part of our college mission and our commitment to the land-grant mission of Washington State University, our faculty and staff are committed to providing a well-rounded educational experience that prepares students for specific careers in their fields of choice, as well as contributors to a global society. The mission of the kinesiology program is to generate, interpret, disseminate, and apply kinesiology discipline knowledge across various contexts to enhance health, productivity, and quality of life.
Students work with world-class researchers and teachers and have opportunities to work in one of many research labs.
In addition to the opportunity to work in these labs, students gain practical, hands on experiences through practicums and internships. Our athletic training program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education and prepares athletic trainers to serve as one of the first healthcare providers in the field when injuries occur. We are proud of our knowledgeable faculty and certified athletic trainers who provide students with opportunities for research, leadership, travel, and clinical partnerships and networking with more than 30 medical professional in the area. Our educational psychology program focuses on how humans learn and retain knowledge, primarily in educational settings. Students learn to be excellent producers and consumers of research and our graduates are prepared to pursue positions in higher education, program evaluation, and policy development in many different settings.
