Middle Level Mathematics
Add-on Endorsement

Washington State University’s Middle Level Math Endorsement program is designed for new (including teacher candidates) and experienced teachers who wish to add an additional endorsement or expertise in middle level mathematics to their current certification.

Course focuses

Professional development

The MLM endorsement helps students enhance their mathematics content knowledge and teaching skills. The courses are interactive and focus on:

  1. Knowledge of how K-8 students think about mathematical ideas;
  2. The development of teachers’ own content knowledge through the working of interactive tasks and problems, and;
  3. Methods of teaching mathematics related to the course topics.
Mathematical areas

The MLM endorsement focuses on the five mathematical areas:

  1. Proportional reasoning
  2. Algebra
  3. Geometry
  4. Statistics and probability
  5. Mathematics teaching

The MLM endorsement supports teachers interested in teaching mathematics at the middle-school level. However, it is also designed to support all teachers across the Grade K-8 spectrum in developing additional content knowledge and mathematics teaching ability.
