What makes Kines 414 different than Kines 412 and 413?

To expand your experience within the profession and science of strength and conditioning, Kines 414 is required to be at a different location, commonly known as an Off-Campus Practicum.

How do I know if a site location qualifies?

The site supervisor is required to be a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, CSCS®, in good standing by the NSCA®

The practicum needs to be a new learning experience.  Your responsibilities and supervisor should not be the same as previous practicums.

The opportunity should provide between 120-150 hours of active learning within a S&C experience through the term you are enrolled.

What do I need to communicate with a potential site supervisor?  What are their responsibilities?

We aim to make your supervisor’s responsibilities manageable!  They will have formal paperwork, and communication at the beginning, a midway check in, and a final evaluation of your performance.  Otherwise, their requirement is to have you learn within their professional environment and find ways for you to contribute within the 120-150 hours.

I found a site that I am excited about and fits the requirements, how do I enroll?

A formal practicum proposal for Kines 414 must be submitted to the clinical coordinator and approved by the committee in the semester prior to beginning the practicum.

What if I am enrolled in Kines 485, too?

The practicum proposal for Kines 414 is separate from Kines 485.  The KINES 414 proposal includes the essential aspects of listing your supervisor’s credentials that show they fit the practicum requirements.  The learning objectives must also be different.

What is the difference between the learning objectives of Kines 485 vs. Kines 414?

I am enrolling in both Kines 485 and Kines 414 together, how do I complete the hours?

IF YOU ARE COMPLETING BOTH 485/414 AT THE SAME LOCATION:  You can count your Kines 414 hours towards your total for Kines 485.

IF YOU ARE COMPLETING 414 AT A SEPARATE LOCATION:  You cannot count your Kines 414 hours towards Kines 485.

Will I have any other course requirements during the practicum?

You will have assignments and competencies according to the syllabus, similar to Kines 412 and 413, on the Canvas course space.

What else do I need to think about regarding an off-site practicum?
