About Dr. Loria

Tristan is a tenure-track assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Educational Psychology. He received his PhD from the University of Toronto in Toronto, Canada.

His research has three parallel trajectories focused on advancing the study of music performance from a kinesiology perspective.

The primary research focus is to understand sensorimotor and biomechanical mechanisms underlying the acquisition of musical motor skills.

This knowledge is then leveraged to develop innovative, inclusive, and equitable music education approaches that improve musical instrument learning outcomes.

Advancements in both research areas are subsequently applied towards developing music-based therapies that promote motor re-learning in chronic stroke.

When not working, Tristan can be found playing music, watching baseball, and having his heart broken year after year by the Toronto Maple Leafs. His goal is to taste every variety of Oreo cookie.
