Program Overview
The WSU Noyce program is funded through the NSF and provides up to two years of tuition funding at the undergraduate level (approximately $12,000 per year) and/or one year of tuition at the graduate level (approximately $13,500) on the Pullman and Vancouver campuses. Unfortunately, this program is not accessible on the Tri-Cities campus.
Who is eligible to apply?
To be eligible for this award, you must:
- Be enrolled in a program at WSU Pullman or Vancouver campus when the scholarship is awarded.
- Be a student studying in mathematics or a related discipline or have completed a program in STEM that can lead to mathematics teacher certification.
- Be willing to teach mathematics in underserved communities after the program.
When is the application deadline?
Committee reviews applications year-round on a rolling basis and will accept applications until all scholarships are filled.
What is the program timeline?
- Application open: Year-round on a rolling basis.
Application deadline: Rolling until all positions for a cohort are filled. - Notification of selection results: Dependent on the semester of admission to the program expect updates in January for Spring, late April for Summer or early August for Fall.
Funds disbursement: We prioritize flexibility and the need of students. Expect early January for Spring or early August for the Fall semester. In the past, some scholars have joined the program early and discussed a future semester they were open to receive funds.
Is this award renewable?
No. However, Noyce scholars may be awarded funding for up to two years if they are undergraduates.
Who administers this program?

What are my responsibilities if I am chosen as a Noyce scholar?
In exchange for receiving the Robert Noyce Scholarship, Noyce Scholars will be required to complete, within eight (8) years after graduation from the baccalaureate degree program for which the scholarship was awarded, two (2) years of service as a mathematics teacher for each year full scholarship was received, with a maximum service requirement of six (6) years.
Service required under this Scholarship Agreement must be performed in a High-Need Local Educational Agency.
Scholars are also expected to attend monthly workshops on humanizing mathematics, network with their peers, work with outstanding virtual mentors from K-12 schools across the state and respond to requests for data that need to be reported to the NSF. Scholars will likely also do short interviews at the beginning and end of their time with the project (e.g., start of year one and end of year two).
