Q&A

What year are you?
Senior

Why did you choose Sport Management?
I chose sport management because I wanted to become a football coach and learning the business side of sports was an important aspect for me to be successful in that industry. I felt that having the knowledge of the sports industry and how it works internally was essential to me being a better coach in the long run and gave me more options of coaching didn’t work out.

Are you involved in any internships/jobs that have to do with sport management on campus? If so how do you think it is going to prepare you?
I am currently not in any internships on campus. However, I do have an internship with Barton Football Academy, which is on the west side of the state in Renton. I will be doing that internship off campus for spring semester.

If you were to pick a dream job, what would it be?
To be the offensive coordinator of a PAC-12 or NFL team. My dream schools or teams to coach for would be the USC Trojans or Seattle Seahawks.

Is there anyone you look up to in the Sport World that you aspire to be and why?
Peyton Manning is who I look up to the most. He’s my role model because he embodies the definition of a true competitor. He prepared more than any other Quarteback and revolutionized the position because of his mental ability, along with his physical talent. He pushed his capabilities and always wanted to do more and be better. Because of that, he never had a bad year, and his play declined when his body couldn’t hold up anymore. He was never satisfied even when he was at the top of his game and that has shown me what it takes to be successful at something everyone wants to be good at, or thinks they are good at. He was never afraid to fail, wanted to learn from his mistakes and didn’t make excuses for them, you could never count him out of a game, and he was a selfless teammate who was focused on the collective team goal and not his own accomplishments. He played because he loved the game more than anything else and I think that really showed in his Hall of Fame speech, which made me cry (he laughs). I felt he taught me so many things in his actions and reaffirmed things I learned from playing when I saw him play and talk. He taught me so much from just being himself and loving the game, I wish he could know the impact he has had on my passion for the game and that I can make something out of myself from what I learned from watching him for 14 years.
