Ian Wright – Secondary Education

Year in school: Junior

Hometown: Lake Stevens, Washington

Why are you studying English Education? What do you hope to do with it after you graduate?

I want to teach High School, either English or Choir.

Why did you choose WSU?

I chose WSU because of the big campus community vibes – everything is walkable and the campus is so pretty.

What’s been your favorite part of the WSU experience thus far?

The friends that I have made and the experiences I’ve gotten by agreeing to do things. I’ve loved going to live music shows and other events on campus. Pullman sunsets are unbeatable.

What has been the biggest challenge so far?

The biggest challenge has been finding my place, especially when who I am is growing so fast, but that’s part of the fun is trying new things and figuring things out. It’s about the process; the journey.

As a college, we’re focusing on our people being agents of change. What makes you an agent of change?

I want to become a teacher not because I love English or Music, though I do, but because I want to be the teacher that high schoolers remember, the one they write about in their personal statements and the one who makes them want to give back to the community. I think being a teacher and showing students what it is to be a good person is unbeatable.
