#TeacherToBeTuesday: Taryn Genger

Taryn Genger – Elementary Education

Year in school: Senior

Hometown: Ferndale, Washington

What are you studying? Elementary Education with an endorsement in Multi-Language Learners (MLL).

Why are you studying this? What do you hope to do with this afterward?

I chose to study elementary education because I have always wanted to be a teacher and I love how blunt elementary students are. I hope to get a job teaching 4th grade in Bellingham once I graduate.

Why did you choose WSU?

I chose WSU because my oldest brother went here, and I got to grow up coming to tailgate for football games. I always knew that I wanted to go here. GO COUGS!

What’s been your favorite part of the WSU experience thus far?

My favorite part of the WSU experience thus far is the people. I have met some of my best friends here and had some of the most caring and inspiring professors.

What has been the biggest challenge so far?

The biggest challenge so far was having to do my freshman year online during Covid.

As a college, we’re focusing on our people being agents of change. What makes you an agent of change?

My goal as an agent of change is to bring excitement and learning into my future students’ lives. I want to create a learning environment that gets kids motivated to come to school.
