Meet Me Monday: Olivia Bush

Olivia Bush – Sport Management

Year in school: Junior

Hometown: Gig Harbor, Washington

Why are you studying Sport Management?

Ever since I was little I had a passion for sports. I never played but I loved watching them and in high school I was an equipment manager for my high school team. It was then when I really fell in love with all aspects of sports an knew I wanted to study sport management and work in sports.

What do you hope to do with your degree after you graduate?

After I graduate, I hope to work for a professional or college sports team in marketing!

Why did you choose WSU?

I chose WSU because of the community. Everyone who goes here is so passionate about the school and what WSU stands for and wants to see everyone around them succeed and wants to help them do so. Whether you are a current student or an alumni, everyone is willing to help one another achieve their goals. Cougs are all over, no matter where you are, if you are wearing Coug gear someone will give you a “go cougs”, it is one special community to be a part of !

What’s been your favorite part of the WSU experience thus far?

Working in athletics! I have been able to work with marketing, event management, and the Cougar Athletic Fund throughout the 3 years I have been here and have been able to work most of the sports because of this. By working at sporting events, you get to see a whole different side of the game and it is something that I wish everyone is able to experience!

What has been the biggest challenge so far?

Honestly, managing my schedule. I have been blessed with having so many opportunities throughout my 3 years so fair in Pullman and I am someone that struggles to say no to people and opportunities, especially when a new one arises that I tend to pack it all into my weekly schedule.

As a college, we’re focusing on our people being agents of change. What makes you an agent of change?

When I was little and would watch sports with my family, I was always looking for professionals in the industry to look up to, but when looking for role models I was never able to find a lot of females that were high up in the front office areas of sport that I could look up to. Over the years, there have now been many females to start to break into this space and I hope to be one of them. I want to be that role model for middle and high school girls that they can look up to and be able to encourage them to break into this space as well
