Getting to Know You: Mackenzie Freeman

Mackenzie Freeman – Elementary Education

Year in school: Junior

Hometown: Maple Valley, Washington

Why are you studying Elementary Education? What do you hope to do after graduation?

I have wanted to become a teacher since I was a little kid! I have always found my greatest sense of belonging inside a classroom. After graduation, I hope to teach kindergarten.

Why did you choose WSU?

I chose WSU for the community and the quality of the education program. I was drawn to how supportive the WSU and Pullman community felt when I visited.

What’s been your favorite part of the WSU experience thus far?

My favorite part of the WSU experience thus far has been having dedicated professors and meeting the sweetest people. I truly am so blessed to have such supportive, life giving friendships.

What’s been the biggest challenge so far?

My biggest challenge so far has been being away from my family. I am such a home body and constantly miss being with my family!

As a college, we’re focusing more on our people being agents of change. What makes you an agent of change?

I have a very strong faith and through that belief, in the power of living like Jesus. With that conviction in my heart, I use that as a compass for instilling goodness into my community and making sure those around me are heard, loved and taken care of.
