Getting to Know You: Kristina Johnson

Kristina Johnson – Elementary Education

Year in school: Junior

Hometown: Vancouver, Washington

Why are you studying Elementary  Education? What do you hope to do after you graduate?

It’s my goal to inspire, motivate and educate the younger generation. I think it truly comes down to putting your students first and pushing them to be their very best. Looking into the future, I see myself standing in front of a classroom of young and inspired students. I hope to go back to school to get my masters and become a professor.

Why did you choose WSU?

I was at a place where I was craving a big change. I looked into my major at Pullman and it seemed right for me. I’m lucky to have chosen Pullman, because it has lead me down an amazing path, I was excepted into my program, met awesome people, and have a fun time!

What’s been your favorite part of the WSU experience thus far?

My favorite part was entering into my major – it was definitely the most exciting thing that has ever happened to me. I’ve met amazing people in my classes and experienced what’s it’s like to be a teacher. Although it’s scary to know I’ll be a teacher, having the support that I’ve gotten has made it all better.

What’s been your biggest challenge so far?

The biggest challenge I would say was first semester. I was taking five hard classes that I put all my effort into. I found myself working the hardest in school that I ever had. Luckily, this paid off because I finished the semester with a 3.91 GPA.

As a college, we are focusing on our people being agents of change. What makes you an agent of change?

Coming here was the biggest change I’ve had in my life and opened new doors of opportunities. Pullman has taught me that change is great and that’s what I strive to do. I’m always looking to take risk and challenge myself. I think everyone should pursue a big change in their life for the sake of themselves. It’s great to have a fresh start or something new in your daily routine.
