#MeetMeMonday: Kinsey Kallaher

Kinsey Kallaher – Sport Management

Year in school: Junior

Hometown: Pullman (WA)

What are you studying? Majoring in Sport Management with minors in Business Administration and Communication

Why are you studying this? What do you hope to do with this afterward?

I chose to study sport management to develop a deeper understanding and knowledge of the sport industry. I wanted to be able to transition my role in sports from a player, fan, and spectator to a professional of the industry, which sport management allowed me to do. It has also taught me how to not only transition my role, but my mindset around sports and the sport industry. After I graduate, I hope to be able to work with a professional sport organization within the community relations department. With this, I hope to be able create opportunities and help create memories for those within the communities which support the team which is in their community.

Why did you choose WSU?

I chose WSU as it gave me the opportunity to study Sport Management while gaining hands on experience within the sport industry through local organizations, like Pullman Parks and Recreation, on-campus organizations, such as the UREC, and even experience within a Division 1 athletic department. Pullman also provided me with a sense of support and community as well, which added to my choice of WSU to further my education.

What’s been your favorite part of the WSU experience thus far?

My favorite part of the WSU experience so far has been being able to get involved within the WSU community through clubs and activities. Through these experiences, I have been able to meet a wide variety of people, including other students, faculty, and staff within the University, along with meet and build relationships with individuals within the sport industry. Through this, I have been able to build and grow my network, create new friendships, and strengthen my leadership skills.

What has been the biggest challenge so far?

My biggest challenge so far throughout my time here at WSU has been creating the delicate school, work, life balance between my coursework, extracurriculars, jobs, and social life. Learning to juggle all my activities and responsibilities has challenged me to work on my time management and learn to say no when my schedule is already filled.

As a college, we’re focusing on our people being agents of change. What makes you an agent of change?

What makes me an agent of change is initiating and facilitating discussions on topics within the Sport Industry, which often are more difficult to talk about and don’t get talked about often enough. Within these discussions, I strive to ask questions, seek new knowledge on the topics to educate myself more on the topics and on ways to start creating change.
