Year in school: Senior

Hometown:

Los Angeles, CA

Areas of study:

Sport Management

Why are you studying this? What do you hope to do with it after you graduate?

I’m studying sport management because I played sports for my entire life and wanted to stay within the industry. There are many different aspects of sport management and many different sports to choose and focus on, so it was my hope to find some direction for a career while taking courses in sport management. With the practicum courses needed for the major, I have found an interest in statistical analysis in baseball (sabermetrics) and hope to find a career as a quantitative analyst.

Why did you choose WSU?

I transferred to WSU after my freshman year at another university. One of my best friends from high school went here and suggested I looked into the school. I did some research, saw what the campus was like and knew I would enjoy the small college town atmosphere.

What’s been your favorite part of the WSU experience thus far?

My favorite part of WSU so far has been attending sporting events with friends. The first college I went to was a small Division 3 school, so football and basketball games were all small scale. The atmosphere at the WSU football, basketball, and baseball games are all next level and seeing the fan interactions and the whole town coming together is always a great time!

What has been the biggest challenge so far?

For the first few years of being here, the biggest challenge at times was going to class. I know many students here have the same problem and it can really affect grades, which adds a lot of stress to life. This year I have made a greater effort to facing the challenge and it has already paid off.

As a college, we’re focusing on our people being agents of change. What makes you an agent of change?

When given the chance, I like to have discussions with peers about topics like sports, news, or politics. I make an effort to hear different opinions and to learn where people are coming from so I can understand their viewpoints from a different perspective, and ask them to do the same. That way, we can have intellectual conversations while showing respect to others opinions, even if they differ on a fundamental level.
