Getting to Know You: Sarah Rothwell

Sarah Rothwell — Kinesiology

Hometown: Issaquah, Washington

Year: Junior

Why did you choose Washington State University?
I chose to come to WSU because it had a kinesiology program which I knew I wanted to major in coming into college. I also got several scholarships and liked that it was in-state. When I visited, the atmosphere at WSU felt really welcoming and the campus was very pretty.

Who, or what, influenced your decision to pursue this degree?
I injured my knee playing soccer my sophomore year of high school which motivated me to take the sports medicine class at my school the next year. This class really caught my interest, and the teacher was one of the best I have ever had. He helped inspire me to pursue a career in sports medicine.

What appeals to you most in this field?
I like Kinesiology because I am able to help people while still being involved in a way with sports.

What is your dream job after college?
My dream job after college is to be a sports medicine physician. I think it would be cool to work for a sports team, but I would also be happy working in a hospital or clinic setting.

What kind of extracurricular activities are you a part of?
I work in the Biomechanics research lab as well as volunteer at Pullman Regional Hospital in the surgical department. I also coach youth soccer and play intramurals through WSU.
