Getting to Know You: Emily Halpern

Emily Halpern – Elementary Education

Year in school: Sophomore

Why are you studying this? What do you hope to do when you graduate?

I’m studying elementary education because I love working with kids and helping them grow. My goal is to become an elementary teacher after I graduate.

Why did you choose WSU?

I chose WSU Pullman because of the environment. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly, especially in the education department. All of the professors are incredibly helpful and caring.

What’s been your favorite part of the WSU experience thus far?

My favorite part of my WSU experience has been being on the Crimson Girls dance team and supporting the school at all the events!

What’s been the biggest challenge?

The biggest challenge for me has been shifting between Zoom classes and in-person classes. Adapting to the COVID protocols has been tough for many students and professors.

As a college, we’re starting to focus more on our people being agents of change. What makes you an agent of change?

As an Elementary Education student, I have to be an agent of change and adapt to what students need. Learning about the different types of students and development of kids helps me be an agent of change.
