Getting to Know You: Emily Ferguson

Emily Ferguson – Elementary Education

Year in school: junior

Why are studying Elementary Education? What do you hope to do with this after you graduate?

I am studying to be a teacher because it is one of the most rewarding and inspirational professions. Both of my parents are teachers and they have been huge role models to me and inspired my love for school and teaching. I hope to teach higher elementary/middle school grades to give students engaging experience and to keep fostering curiosity and love for education.

Why did you choose WSU?

I chose the Pullman campus of WSU due to the infectious energy, school spirit and right community within this town. Every day I have pride to walk through campus.

What’s been your favorite part of the WSU experience thus far?

Being in the Cougar Marching Band/Pep Band has been the best part of WSU for me. I have met so many amazing people and had opportunities to travel and represent our school that I wouldn’t get at many other places.

What’s been the biggest challenge so far?

The biggest challenge has been readjusting to campus life from missing out on an in-person sophomore year due to COVID. Trying to balance heavier workloads while also trying to make up for lost time in social activities is a bit tricky.
