Ellyot Mcialwain – Elementary Education

Year in school: Senior

Hometown: Lynnwood, Washington

What are you studying? Elementary Education with a minor in Human Development

Why are you studying this? What do you hope to do with this afterward?

I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in second grade. I love all children and am constantly inspired by their joys and views of the world. I hope to teach kindergarten-second grade throughout my career. I can’t wait to get started!

Why did you choose WSU?

I chose to come to WSU because I am a huge football fan and someone who loves a small town feel. I have not been disappointed at all.

What’s been your favorite part of the WSU experience thus far?

I have loved getting into and becoming a part of the College of Education program. I have learned so much from peers and educators and have truly embraced what it means to be a loving, trusting teacher.

What has been the biggest challenge so far?

I have had many ups and downs throughout my college career, but I have been able to overcome it all with the support of friends, professors, family, and my sorority.

As a college, we’re focusing on our people being agents of change. What makes you an agent of change?

I believe the most important thing that comes with being an agent of change is adaptability. As a future educator, I plan to constantly be flexible in my approach to teaching and to work to promote positive change throughout my career.
