#MeetMeMonday: Daniela Barros

Daniela Barros – Sport Management

Year in school: Junior

Hometown: Maple Valley, Washington

What are you studying? Major: Sport Management. Minor: Communication

Why are you studying this? What do you hope to do with this afterward?

I have grown up loving sports and knew I wanted to work in sports. I want to work with the Seattle Mariners after I graduate.

Why did you choose WSU?

I chose WSU because I felt like I was back home, the community aspect and Sport Management program while being able to stay in Washington was my reason to choose WSU!

What’s been your favorite part of the WSU experience thus far?

Attending sporting events and doing media for sporting events.

What has been the biggest challenge so far?

Although home is only 4.5 hours away, traveling across the state to visit home has been challenging.

As a college, we’re focusing on our people being agents of change. What makes you an agent of change?

I believe I am an agent of change because every day I encourage conversations to change how female athletes are represented, spoken about, and viewed. Female athletes historically have been oppressed and today there is unacceptable behavior and language towards female athletes. I am an outspoken voice that always advocates for women and the pursuit of equity in the sports industry.
