#TeacherToBeTuesday: Annika Waring

Annika Waring – Secondary Education

Year in school: Senior

Hometown: Chehalis, Washington

What are you studying? Math education. Minor in Human Development.

Why are you studying this?

I am studying secondary math education because growing up I have always wanted to be a teacher and I have a love for math, so I thought what better way than to combine the two! I’ve been fortunate to draw inspiration from a variety of teachers, and now I aspire to inspire others in the same way! After I graduate, I plan on starting my Masters in Teacher here at WSU and eventually becoming a high school math teacher in either Hawaii or Montana!

Why did you choose WSU?

I chose WSU because the majority of my family members have attended here and loved it! I love the school spirit, community, and everything this campus has to offer.

What’s been your favorite part of the WSU experience thus far?

My favorite part of WSU has been playing for the Lacrosse Club team and meeting some of my best friends!

What has been the biggest challenge so far?

Some of my math courses have challenged me the most so far at WSU.

As a college, we’re focusing on our people being agents of change. What makes you an agent of change?

As a future teacher I plan on helping students become and grow into the best versions of themselves. I plan on being a role model and supporting my students as they try new things and make changes both in and out of the classroom.
