#MeetMeMonday: Abbie Reynolds

Abbie Reynolds – Sport Management

Year in school: Senior

Hometown: Kirkland (WA)

What are you studying? Major: Sport Management. Minor: Business

Why are you studying this? What do you hope to do with this afterward?

I chose sports management because of my passion for sports growing up and loving the high energy game-day atmosphere.  When I graduate, I hope to work for a professional sports team in the Seattle area in the marketing department.

Why did you choose WSU?

I chose WSU because I have a lot of family that attended, and I love the tight knit community that feels like a home away from home.

What’s been your favorite part of the WSU experience thus far?

My favorite part about WSU has been joining a sorority and finding like-minded people that share my values and interests.  As mentioned above, I also really enjoy how the community is close and supports each other.  At many other schools students can go home every weekend to do their laundry or see family, but being in Pullman many students are unable to do so, which forces a bond between students that you won’t find at other schools.  This makes going to WSU special because everyone becomes family, and it brings a sense of pride and understanding among students.

What has been the biggest challenge so far?

My biggest challenge was coming to WSU during Covid and feeling isolated doing classes online.  It made me second guess my decision to come here when all my other friends and family were at home and I would compare the time and experiences I was having to theirs, when I should have been focusing on myself.  I am grateful that I stuck it out another year and now live with my best friends and have made connections with people that will be with me throughout the rest of my life.

As a college, we’re focusing on our people being agents of change. What makes you an agent of change?

Something that makes me an agent of change is my ability to be compassionate.  I have always been able to understand others and their feelings, and this has become very important in today’s world by using a more diversified way of thinking and taking a different perspective at various situations. I also am an agent of change because I know how to advocate and stand up for myself.  Women are very underestimated and undervalued in the sports industry and I have to advocate for myself and prove I have the same value as anyone else in the room.
