Application Checklist/Information

PRIORITY Deadline: January 10 for fall admission; July 01 for spring admission.

Although late applications may be considered, the department cannot guarantee an admission decision will be made prior to the start of the semester for which you apply.

Step One – Know…..

Here’s a “checklist” of information you’ll need when you apply.

01. WSU Graduate School general application requirements (including application fee).
once in GradCAS search for Washington State University (program name)

02. Current resume or vitae, documenting your educational attainments and highlighting any kinesiology related work and/or research experience.

03. Letter of Intent addressing the following:

(a) the reason for pursuing a kinesiology graduate degree,

(b) a description of relevant research or professional experiences,

(c) a commitment to scholarship and/or professional development,

(d) a specific research or area of interest and whether you are applying for a thesis or non-thesis degree, if applying for the thesis track – specify the faculty member you have already been in contact with who has agreed to serve as your thesis advisor, and, if applying for a teaching assistantship,

(e) why you would be an effective teacher at the college level, what relevant teaching related experiences you have.

04. OPTIONAL: A copy of official Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores.

05. Three letters of reference, two of which must be from former professors and address academic qualifications (If you graduated with your bachelor’s degree more than 5 years ago, please provide three professional letters addressing your abilities in the following skills: communication, interpersonal, leadership, resourcefulness, time management, and self-directedness). Once you have submitted your online application, your references will be contacted by the College.net service via email with directions for submitting their letters of recommendation.

06. Complete Educational History and Transcripts from any colleges/universities:

• Where any degrees have been granted or are expected.

• That show any graded bachelor’s work and/or graduate-level work (including doctoral) taken after the bachelor’s degree.

• Unofficial copies may be uploaded with your Graduate School application for application review. If admitted, you will be required to submit official copies to the WSU Graduate School.

Official WSU Transcripts are NOT required for coursework taken at WSU.

07. International Students must meet the university’s English proficiency and funding requirements. Please view the current requirements.

08. Additional information that may support your application. The Kinesiology program values prerequisite knowledge in the following areas: neuroscience, bioengineering, biology, health and wellness, psychology, sociology. Evidence of prerequisite knowledge may consist of prior coursework or work experience judged adequate by the Kinesiology faculty. If you possess knowledge in one or more of these areas that may not be evident in your transcripts or resume, please provide a brief typewritten explanatory statement. Also include any relevant practical and/or research experience.

The Graduate School at Washington State University requires applicants to have achieved a minimum undergraduate cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.00 (B Average). If your GPA is below a 3.00, please include a brief statement explaining the circumstances and indicating why you believe you will be able to maintain a graduate-level GPA above a 3.00 if you are granted and exception to this requirement.
