Division I Sport Psychology Keynote Speakers

Dr. Trisha Nash 

Director of Student-Athlete Mental Health Services

Gonzaga University Athletics

  • Licensed Psychologist (2016) and Certified Mental Performance Consultant (2020) with experience working with college age students and student athletes over the past 10 years.
  • Came to GU (2023) from the University of Idaho, where she spent last three years acting as a liaison between counseling and athletics embedded within the athletics department.
  • Postdoctoral fellowship with University of Washington Athletics/Seattle Children’s Hospital with a focus on Sport Psychology, Student Athlete Mental Health, and Psychoeducational/Neuropsychological Assessment, including Post concussion assessment.

Connor Hartley

Mental Health Counselor

Washington State University Athletics

  • Licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) and joined the Cougars in the Fall of 2022 as Washington State Athletics’ Mental Health Counselor.
  • Bachelor’s degree from Loyola Marymount University (2015).  Master’s in counseling psychology with a focus in sport psychology from Boston University, (2018) and worked with Boston University student-athletes.
  • Private practice, PNW Resilience (2018-2022), worked with individual collegiate and competitive youth athletes from various sports including University of Puget Sound men’s basketball, Ballard High School soccer, Chief Sealth soccer, and Graham-Kapowsin High School basketball among others.
  • Previously worked in community mental health, doing counseling in-home with high-risk, low-income adults.

Self-Compassion Workshop Facilitators

Trymaine Gaither

Special Assistant to the Provost for Inclusive Excellence at Washington State University

  • He equips faculty with essential skills in the realm of mindfulness-based anti-racism and contemplative pedagogy.
  • He holds a professional certification from the International Mindfulness Teachers Association. As a mindfulness practitioner, he’s completed training at the Center for Mindfulness at Brown University and the University of California San Diego Center for Mindful Self-Compassion, specializing in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Mindful Self-Compassion.
  • Faculty affiliate at the Center for Mindfulness at Brown, where he is part of a multi-year mindfulness project designed to address the historical divide between police and black community members and reduce implicit bias within policing.

Dr. Anne Cox

Professor of Kinesiology at Washington State University

  • Co-Director of the Psychology for Physical Activity Lab and Founder of Find What Moves You program for girls and non-binary youth to foster positive embodiment, and current President North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity.
  • She is a leading  expert in mindfulness in physical activity and positive embodiment. Her work examins how different aspects of body image (e.g., body shame, body surveillance) relate to physical activity behaviors, and the effect of educational programs and/or various forms of physical activity (e.g., yoga, strength training, aerobic exercise) on body image in children, adolescents and college students.
  • She has completed 200 hours yoga teacher training and leads a variety of Yoga, Meditation, and Mindfulness opportunities in the WSU and local community.
