Critical Conversation #1

December 14, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Fostering diversity and inclusion in thinking, language, and behaviors regarding our bodies and movements: What we have learned in the Kinesiology program

An important component to healthy movement and personal wellness involves the relationship we each have with our body, which can be devalued via cultural, non-inclusive stimuli. Non-inclusive language and behaviors are unique to kinesiology settings and populations, and effective strategies to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field of Kinesiology should be framed within individual wellness and community well-being. Kinesiology faculty at WSU have developed strategic initiatives to better inform and train students and soon-to-be Kinesiology professionals to communicate in more inclusive ways and create safe and empowering Kinesiology settings.
