Position Description

Direct unit operations for the Office of Field Services and Certification. Develop, plan, organize and direct the placement and supervision of student teacher interns statewide and overseas. Work collaboratively with constituents both internally and externally in the implementation of policies and procedures related to intern assessment, evaluation, and data gathering. Position will provide feedback and input on legislation and policies with statewide impact. Conduct supervisor and mentor teacher training programs. Plan and oversee the budget. Direct management of student teaching records.

Duties
  • Administration and Supervision (70%) – Develop and administer policies and procedures for placement and supervision of field experiences that align with state requirements. Coordinate policies and implementation of the State of Washington’s Education Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA). Plan and implement development and training of approximately 25 site-based field coordinators and supervisors in the placement and supervision of WSU pre-service teachers in K-12 schools statewide. Compile and edit student and cooperating teacher handbooks for field experiences. Gather and report statistical data related to the professional preparation program, including but not limited to the Educational Benchmark Incorporated, Student Exit Survey and edTPA.
  • Coordination of Field Placements (20%) – Coordinate seminars for TCH_LRN 415 Student Teaching. Coordinate MIT 571 and 573 field placements. Initiate and maintain communication for overseas placement opportunities. Screen, place and supervise overseas student teachers and provide instruction/seminars. Coordinate and oversee field related courses for elementary and secondary education and for the Masters in Teaching program.
  • Liaison to Teacher Education Program (5%) – Serve on department, college, campus and state wide committees. Plan and coordinate three annual state-mandated Professional Education Advisory Board (PEAB) meetings. Represent WSU on the state edTPA committee. Participate and attend WACTE and WACTE Field Directors meetings. Attend all teaching program meetings (Elementary and Secondary Program meetings, etc). Collaborate closely with the Director of Teacher Education.
  • Other Duties (5%) – Develop and oversee budget/fiscal records for field services and student teaching. Oversee payments to mentor teachers in K-12. Monitor tuition waiver program for participating K-12 schools in Whitman/Asotin counties. Conduct employee evaluations and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and six (6) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, which has included at least three (3) years of managerial experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Education and experience can be tailored to fit the specific organizational entity/directorial assignment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or equivalent (or beyond)
  • Five (5) years of K-12 public school teaching (with administrative responsibilities) or building administrator.
  • Demonstrated experience working with teacher preparation programs.
  • Demonstrated experience with field placement, supervision and evaluation of teacher candidates.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and supporting students through periods of stress.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting, applying, and responding to complex state laws, education policies, and mandates.
  • Demonstrated experience with conducting meetings/trainings with diverse groups of educators in response to state laws, education policies, and mandates.
