Getting to Know You: Irina Ostapa

Irina Ostapa – Early Childhood Education

Year: Junior
Hometown: Born in Ukraine but currently lives in Vancouver

Why are you studying that? What do you hope to do with that after you graduate?
I’m studying education because I want to be a teacher that impacts the next generation. After graduation, I hope to teach in a middle school in the area.

Why did you choose WSU Vancouver (as opposed to going somewhere like Pullman)?
I wanted to stay close to home and my church community. That was a very important factor in my decision.

What’s been your favorite part of the WSUV experience thus far?
My favorite part of the WSUV experience has been the instructors. They have been there alongside, interested in my success almost more than me some days.

What’s been the biggest challenge so far?
So far the biggest challenge has been staying on top of all the different classes we take, and what each requires of us.

As a college, we’re starting to focus more on our people being agents of change. What makes you an agent of change?
Being the first in my family to go to college, I’m an example to my younger siblings and cousins to pursue higher education.
