Getting to Know You: Veronica Romero

Veronica Romero – Elementary Education with a Bilingual Education Endorsment

Hometown: Sunnyside, WA
Year: Senior

Why are you studying that? What do you hope to do with that after you graduate?
It is so much fun and a career that makes difference!

I’m hoping to serve and teach in my community in Sunnyside.

Why did you choose WSU Tri-Cities (as opposed to going somewhere like Pullman)?

I am a first-generation college student and didn’t have the opportunity to pursue higher education immediately after high school but always knew I wanted to be a COUG! WSU Tri-Cities allows me the opportunity to get a real college experience that is accessible to me because of its location and size.

What’s been your favorite part of the WSUTC experience thus far?

The people and the beautiful campus. The community on campus is a huge support network. Plus, the campus is absolutely gorgeous throughout every season of the year.

What’s been the biggest challenge so far?

I’m a single mom. So, missing out on opportunities to be with my kids has been challenging but worth it.

As a college, we’re starting to focus more on our people being agents of change. What makes you an agent of change?

My mission as an educator is to embrace diversity that fosters a classroom culture that empowers my students to be lifelong learners, innovators, questioners, thinkers, doers and overall empowers THEM to become agents of change; making a lasting impression within themselves and the world around them. How am I an agent of change? I am creating and fostering generations of agents of change.
