Why do you want to become a teacher?

I want to become a teacher because of the impact that I can have on my students that can affect their life. I want to be able to help lead our next generation into careers that fit each student. I want to be able to elevate the quality of education and ensure that my students have the opportunity to a proper education and succeed. I want to give back to the community that raised me and inspire hope that college is attainable for me. If I can do it, why can’t you?

What are you most passionate about when it comes to being a teacher?

I am most passionate about providing a safe environment for all students and to bring excitement for students to look forward to going to school. I want to be able to have my past students come back and visit me and tell me they miss my class or even just to catch up on things.

What/who inspired you to become a teacher?

Mrs. Webster- second grade. She truly is the reason on why I chose education to be my major. The different ways in which she encouraged my work, the time she would set out to help each individual student, and ultimately telling me that one day I will graduate from college. Her dedication to the profession inspired me and I still go back and visit her to this day. When I get my own class, I will give her a call and tell her thanks for everything. She probably doesn’t know how much of an impact she has had on my life. She will soon enough.

Where do you hope to go after graduation?

I want to stay somewhat close to home. Maybe teach in the tri-cities area or somewhere that isn’t too far from Yakima. I want to eventually have my own classroom where I can show my mom, which will truly be a special moment. She has done a lot for me and the least I could do is bring a smile to her face. I will be content with wherever I get to teach, as long as I know I will have my own classroom.

What is your favorite part of this program?

My favorite part of the program is being able to hear different stories from my professors. They have a lot of valuable information and experience that can be useful to us students. Also, being in block, you are with the same students and have the same classes as them. It’s awesome going through the process with them and you can always rely on each other for help. It’s awesome being around others that share the same passion as you.

Do you have any advice for incoming freshmen?
