A message from our co-chairs

Welcome to the Department of Educational Leadership, Sport Studies, and Educational/Counseling Psychology. As you can guess from our name we are a dynamic department with multiple program offerings. We offer undergraduate and graduate programs. Our Pullman undergraduate programs include kinesiology (with options in athletic training and sport science) and sport management. Graduate programs include counseling psychology (accredited by the American Psychological Association), educational leadership, educational psychology, and sport management. The doctoral program in educational leadership was the first statewide doctorate offered at WSU, and is a cohort-based program designed to meet the needs of emerging leaders across the state of Washington. Students can access the Ed.D. program from WSU-Spokane, TriCities, Vancouver, and Pullman. In addition to our degree programs in educational leadership, we offer field-based superintendent and principal certification programs as well.

We also offer a certificate in research methods that students can take as part of their degree program or to augment an existing degree area or for professional development.

The faculty in our department are some of the best in the world. Our faculty include some of the most outstanding scholars in their fields—which range from assessment to sports law to multicultural counseling—with many holding national and international leadership positions in their professional organizations. Research and scholarship are critical components of the department, and our students have many opportunities to collaborate with faculty in ongoing research.

The departmental mission is to address the needs of communities, individuals, and educational institutions in a diverse society through leadership, scholarship, collaboration, and professional practice.

Our faculty are eager to assist you with questions about future possibilities at WSU. I invite you to explore our site further and welcome the opportunity to visit with you in Pullman or to help you arrange a visit at one of our other campuses. For further information contact us at 509-335-9117 (undergraduate programs) or 509-335-9195 (graduate programs).
