Becoming a Teacher Roadmap – Secondary Ed

Program Admission
  1. Have a desire to teach.
  2. Touch base with our secondary education advisor.
  3. Do all your courses in your major and choose content area for teaching.
  4. Attend info session.
  5. Complete practicum and seminar (TCH_LRN 317).

Block I
  1. Hurray! You’re now admitted.
  2. Do your teaching coursework (Block I).
  3. Apply for student teaching (you won’t end up actually doing the student teaching yet).
    1. Fill out Interview Information Sheets.
    2. Attach three copies of your major/endorsement area checksheet.
    3. Submit student teaching packet and sign up for an interview.
  4. Complete pre-residency certificate clearance (background check).
  5. Register for (or perhaps even attempt) the content knowledge exam.

Block II
  1. Great job! You’re moving along!
  2. Purchase liability insurance.
  3. Complete advanced practicum (TCH_LRN 469).
    1. This usually takes place in your home town area.
    2. It’s the first 4-6 weeks of a semester.
    3. It’s full-time.
    4. Complete PDEFE form.
  4. Return to campus for the last 10 weeks of normal courses.
