Becoming a Teacher Roadmap – Secondary Ed
Program Admission
- Have a desire to teach.
- Touch base with our secondary education advisor.
- Do all your courses in your major and choose content area for teaching.
- Attend info session.
- Complete practicum and seminar (TCH_LRN 317).
Block I
- Hurray! You’re now admitted.
- Do your teaching coursework (Block I).
- Request assignment for advanced practicum student teaching area (planning ahead!).
- Complete pre-residency certificate clearance (background check).
- Register for (or perhaps even attempt) the content knowledge exam.
Block II
- Great job! You’re moving along!
- Purchase liability insurance.
- Complete advanced practicum (TCH_LRN 469).
- This usually takes place in your home town area.
- It’s the first 4-6 weeks of a semester.
- It’s full-time.
- Complete PDEFE form.
- Return to campus for the last 10 weeks of normal courses.
- Pass the content knowledge exam.
- Pass all your classes.
Block III
- You’re now down the homestretch!
- Complete your student teaching.
