Strength and Conditioning Minor

Kines 414 Off-campus practicum

KINES 414 (STRENGTH TRAINING PRACTICUM 3)

Off-Campus Practicum requirements

Kines 414 is designed to be the last practicum required prior to completing the minor.  Students are required to find a NSCA CSCS certified strength and conditioning coach to intern and learn under.  In the past, students have completed these experiences in diverse occupational settings throughout the nation.

A formal practicum proposal for Kines 414 must be submitted to the clinical coordinator and approved by the committee in the semester prior to beginning the practicum. Additionally, students will not be able to enroll in the course until the proposal is approved.  Three learning objectives related to strength and conditioning/performance enhancement are required to be agreed upon between the student, supervisor, and clinical coordinator.  The hours log that the student submits must clearly show how the learning objectives have been met through the clinical experience.

The learning objectives for Kines 414 must be separate and unique from learning objectives for Kines 485, even if the location of the two internships is the same.  Both experiences require a separate proposal submission.  If a student is able to find a location to complete both Kines 485 (10 credits) and Kines 414 (3 credits), the total number of hours the student must complete is 450, 150 of which must be actively engaging in the strength and conditioning internship.  Study hours do not count towards Kines 414 course credits.

If a student chooses separate locations for Kines 485 and Kines 414, then you must complete 150 hours at your Kines 414 location, and 450 hours for Kines 485 course credits.

For Kines 414, students are required to submit their practicum proposal for approval prior to registering for the course.  Submit your proposal using the following link:  https://wsu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3qGHhBsWrLvmDhILinks to an external site.
