On implementing Native perspective in public education
Most of my students are from the Spokane Tribe in Hunters, Washington. And (through this program), I’m just learning a lot about equity in education and being a voice for Native students. Everything currently that is done in education is really from a white perspective and not from a Native perspective. I’ve already been able to help our administration just consider how this might impact our culture that we’re serving, and that’s been really positive.

On the Native American achievement gap in Washington state
For the schooling that I’m doing, I’m just learning a lot about achievement gap. I just learned in my last class that Native American students have the highest achievement gap in Washington state than in any other state. And that made me mad! But then it also gave me more passion that this is the right work I need to be doing right now.
