Getting to Know You: Oliver Werner

Oliver Werner – Kinesiology

Year in school: 2nd year Masters student

Hometown: Los Gatos, California

Why are you studying Kinesiology?

I chose to continue my education and get a master’s degree in kinesiology because I loved what I was studying and loved the faculty and staff in the program. After I graduate, I hope to either work in university recreation or strength and conditioning. Further down the road, I hope to open my own powerlifting and strongman gym.

Why did you choose WSU?

I chose to stay at WSU because I really fell in love with the campus and Pullman during my undergraduate years. In addition, I also loved the family feeling of both the school, and the students and faculty within the Kinesiology Program.

What’s been your favorite part of the WSU experience thus far?

My favorite part of the WSU experience is definitely the culture and family feeling it brings.

What’s been the biggest challenge so far?

I think the biggest challenge of pursuing my master’s is balancing my time since I work at the SRC as a graduate assistant as well as working on my thesis project.

As a college, we’re starting to focus more on our people being “agents of change.” What makes you an agent of change?

I believe I am an agent of change because my goal is to make everyone’s experience here at WSU the best experience. When I first got here, everyone always spoke highly of WSU and how it has so much spirit and is family oriented. I now work in intramurals, which I think plays a major role with developing a family-oriented school as it gives people the opportunity to meet people and continuing playing sports and staying active.
