Getting to Know You: Nate Richardson

Nate Richardson –  Kinesiology

Year in school: Senior

What are you studying?

Kinesiology

Hometown: Oakdale, California

Why are you studying this? What do you hope to do with that after you graduate?

I am studying kinesiology to help me gain a better background for paramedic school after I graduate. As I am already a reserve Firefighter/EMT for the City of Pullman, after I graduate my plan is to go to paramedic school to be a firefighter paramedic. After I have a few years of experience doing that I will decide if I want to progress my education in the medical field by going to medical school to become an ER doctor.

Why did you choose WSU?

I choose WSU because I love the environment of a small college town, I have enjoyed watching Cougar football for years, WSU has an amazing Kinesiology program, and I was able to become a firefighter and EMT through the City of Pullman while still being a full-time student.

What’s been your favorite part of the WSU experience thus far?

My favorite part of my WSU experience is hard to narrow down to just one thing, but the people I have met, the opportunities I have had, and the knowledge I have gained will be what will stick with me as what made WSU so special.

What’s been the biggest challenge so far?

My biggest challenge at WSU so far has been finding balance in my life between groups I am a part of, the two jobs that I work, being a full-time student, and having fun in my four short years here.

As a college, we’re starting to focus more on our people being agents of change. What makes you an agent of change?

I would say that I am an agent of change by trying my best to lead by example in everything that I do. Between school, work, and fun I try to be a leader and good example for people to follow even when I am not in a leadership role. I hope that by doing this that it will help to elevate the level of performance in the entire group, class, or team.
