Getting to Know You: Katie Lukes

Katie Lukes – Athletic Training

Year in school: senior

Hometown: Auburn, Washington

Why are you studying Athletic Training? What do you hope to do with this after you graduate?

I’m studying Athletic Training to be able to help others through health and work with an active population. I enjoy the challenge of pursuing a degree in healthcare. After graduation, I hope to pursue a career in a clinical setting and to bring my orthopedic background and skillset to provide healthcare to a diverse population.

Why did you choose WSU?

I chose WSU on a bit of a whim. I chose WSU Pullman because of the sense of community and family that I felt across campus. “Cougs help Cougs” is an evident mentality across campus that can be felt by incoming freshman that made me feel welcomed.

What’s been your favorite part of the WSU experience thus far?

My favorite part about the WSU experience so far has been the ability to be involved in mentoring students throughout their time at WSU. Paying it forward to younger generations and helping them navigate their college journey has truly been the most rewarding experience.

As a college, we’re focusing more on our people being agents of change. What makes you an agent of change?

Being an agent of change within the medical profession is something that is really important to me. I think that mindsets within healthcare are shifting and I think that as an athletic trainer, I can offer a unique perspective into healthcare and to consider multiple aspects of health.
