Getting to Know You: Jalen Young

Jalen Young – Kinesiology

Year in school: junior

Hometown: Sammamish, Washington

What are you studying?

Kinesiology on the pre-med track.

Why are you studying Kinesiology? What do you hope to do with this after you graduate?

I’m studying Kinesiology to hopefully become a healthcare professional. I interacted with a lot of healthcare professionals throughout high school due to injuries and they helped me not only on the physical side of things, but also uplifted me mentally. I hope that I can become that person for others in the same situations.

Why did you choose WSU?

I chose to transfer to WSU this year because I thought it was a better fit for me culturally. Although my entire family went to UW, I decided to go against the grain.

What’s been your favorite part of the WSU experience thus far?

My favorite part of the WSU experience so far is meeting all the different people from different walks of life and forming meaningful relationships.

What’s been the biggest challenge so far?

The biggest challenge for me so far is transitioning back into in-person classes from an online school. Finding the golden balance of everything has been difficult but I think I’m starting to figure it out.

As a college, we’re focusing more on our people being agents of change. What makes you an agent of change?

What I think makes me an agent of change is that no matter what is happening in the day or the world I try to remain positive. If I have an interaction with someone big or small, I try to keep positive energy to put that person on course for a better day.
