Getting to Know You: Rosemary Dinh

Rosemary Dinh – Athletic Training Undergraduate Student

Hometown: Kent, WA

Minors: Sport Management

What inspired you to pursue this career?
I knew that I wanted to be in the medical field but I knew that being a doctor or pharmacist would be too much school, mainly science, for me. I love athletic training because of how hands on it is and how dynamic the profession is. It is more than just taping ankles and giving water, it is the prevention and care for injuries.

Who, or what, influenced your decision to pursue this degree?
I knew that I wanted to be a part of the medical field but becoming a nurse or pharmacist required too much school and complicated science classes. Athletic training is perfect because it is a hands-on profession and you are able to assist in many aspects of a student-athlete’s life.

What is your dream job after college?
I would love to become an athletic trainer within the performing arts field. I have an interest in the performing arts field because of some of my previous experience. But I also believe that performers are underrepresented and should receive the same healthcare as professional football players. I want to help those who are often overlooked and have them feel that they deserve the same amount of care as everyone else.

Do you have any advance for incoming freshmen pursuing this degree?
You get as much as you put in and you have to love what you do. Athletic Training can get tiring and overwhelming but if you put in the effort and want to get something out of it, your time in the program will be better!

What kind of extracurricular activities are you a part of?
I’m in a multicultural sorority named the Lovely Sisterhood of Chi Delta Sigma Sorority, Inc., I have been the Director of Ceremonies for the Shaping High School Asian Pacific Islanders for the Next Generation (S.H.A.P.I.N.G.) conference for the past two years, and I’ve been the President and Junior Advisor for the Vietnamese Student Association.
