Hometown: Vancouver, WA

Year: Junior

Why did you choose Washington State University?
I wanted to stay within the state, but I also wanted to be far enough from home to get the full college experience.

What inspired you to pursue a degree in kinesiology?
I’ve always enjoyed sports. I was an athlete for most of my life and was always intrigued about posture and movement. I thought that this program was a good fit because I’m actually interested in learning about the human body.

Who, or what, influenced your decision to pursue this degree?
I took a sport science class in high school and knew that this is what I wanted to do. The teacher was the school’s athletic trainer and he made class a lot of fun.

Was pursuing this degree always your plan?
No. I actually was undecided my first semester at WSU. I was taking English and math classes and knew that those weren’t things I wanted to pursue. I decided that my career goal is to be a physical therapist and felt that kinesiology was a good fit.

What appeals to you most in this field?
I like that as a science major, kinesiology focuses more on anatomy and physiology rather than the cellular and molecular aspects.

What is your favorite part of this program?
I like that by the third year everyone is certified in the program and you start seeing the same people in all of your classes. You get to make friends or people to study with and they basically have the same schedule as you.
