Getting to Know You: Jillian Ohlemeier

Jillian Ohlemeier – Sport Management Undergraduate Student

Hometown: Stanwood, WA

Minors: Business & Communications

Year: Senior

What inspired you to pursue your degree?
I have always been involved in sports my entire life. I did competitive gymnastics for 16 years and then cheerleading here at Washington State. I have always had a passion for sports so deciding on this major was easy for me. I love being involved and have found this major very rewarding.

What appeals to you most in this field?
What I find interesting and appealing in this major is the different options available. Before choosing sport management I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do with it, but the program has shown me many options in different fields.

What is your favorite part of this program?
My favorite part about this program is how the courses are laid out. I really enjoyed how they set you up for your final course here, Sport Management 489. This final course uses all the courses I have completed during my time here. I really enjoy the people in this major, the faculty and students are amazing.

What is your dream job after college?
My dream job after college would be to work with USAG in their operations. USAG is the club level or Olympic level for gymnastics and I think that I would love to be involved with the organization.

Have you had any experience in this area, such as an internship?
I’m currently planning to intern in the fall with the University of Washington’s Gymnastics Operations which will hopefully lead me into working with USAG.

Do you have any advice for incoming freshmen pursuing this degree?
One piece of advice I have is to begin practicum opportunities as soon as you can. One thing I wish I could do over is working with the Washington State University Athletic department sooner.
