#MeetMeMonday: Collette Edge

Collette Edge

Collette Edge — Kinesiology

Home: Pullman, WA

Year: Junior/senior

What inspired you to pursue a degree in kinesiology?
I have worked in the fitness industry for the past 12 years as an instructor, trainer, and coach for multiple gyms and studios throughout the Palouse. I enjoy working with individuals who are looking to increase their quality of life through movement. Kinesiology was a natural next step in paving the path toward a future degree in occupational therapy.

Was pursuing this degree always your plan?
Being a mom was always my “plan,” but I have always enjoyed continuing my education through certifications and continuing education courses. Having all of my children in school, I decided it was time to go back to pursue a career that will help fill the void when my children leave home.

What is your dream job after college?
My dream job after college would be working with either pediatrics or seniors. I enjoy working with underserved, vulnerable populations and helping to increase their quality of life and circumstance.

Have you had any experience in this area, such as an internship?
I recently finished job shadowing with Gritman Therapy Solutions in their Occupational Therapy office; I will be beginning an additional shadowing opportunity with Pullman Regional Hospital Summit Therapy for this spring semester. I have enjoyed seeing the broad field of OT and look forward to expanding my perspective further this spring.

What kind of extracurricular activities are you a part of?
As a Sports Science major, movement is what I love. You can find me outside with my husband and kids mountaineering year round, or teaching Yoga at Sanctuary. I enjoy meeting up with friends to do active activities and sharing it with anyone who wants to join the party. Movement makes me happy and I love helping others to cultivate an active/functional lifestyle.
