Getting to Know You: Taylor Heersink

Taylor Heersink – Elementary Education

Hometown: Eatonville, WA

Year: Junior

Why do you want to become a teacher?

I want to become a teacher because I want to be able to leave an impact on my students like my teachers did for me! I also come from a family of educators and they have always inspired me to become whatever I wanted to, but I wanted to follow in their footsteps.

What/who inspired you to become a teacher?

My mom and grandma are both educators, so they were the ones who first put the thought of becoming a teacher in my head, then in high school I had three teachers who made me want to become a teacher too. They were three of the most influential people I have ever known and left such an impact on me that I hope to do that for my future students

Where do you hope to go after graduation?

I hope to go to a great school district that values their teachers and students. I hope that wherever I end up is where I am supposed to be.

What impact do you hope to make on your future students?

I hope that I can make my students see that learning is fun and exciting every day, I hope that they never dread coming to school. I hope they are always exciting to come to school and to my classroom.

What is your favorite part of this program?

My favorite part is all learning. Learning from all my amazing professors and learning from my peers who I hope to teach with one day. I also love how we get to try out so many different teaching practices in each class.

Do you have any advice for incoming freshmen?

Make sure to have fun. This is such a special and short time that goes by fast. Make the most of it always!
