Getting to Know You: Mikaela Kirton
Mikaela Kirton – Kinesiology
Year in school: Junior
Hometown: Denver, Colorado
Why are you studying Kinesiology? What do you hope to do with that after you graduate?
I am studying Kinesiology to hopefully go on to physical therapy school in the future. Being a PT has always interested me because it allows me to be passionate about the human body and anatomy, as well as help others. These are two things I would love to incorporate into my future career, making physical therapy perfect for me!
Why did you choose WSU?
I chose WSU because of the school spirit and pride that is everywhere: not just on campus, but in the entire town of Pullman, as well. I am incredibly proud to be a Coug because of the sense of community WSU brings, and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else!
What has been your favorite part of the WSU experience thus far?
My favorite part about being a Coug has been the people I have met. I am on the women’s swim team here at WSU, and it has given me so many opportunities to learn and grow as a person, teammate, and swimmer. The people I have met in the Kinesiology program have been amazing, as well, making it so easy to go to classes and learn about things I am passionate about!
What’s been the biggest challenge so far?
The biggest challenge for me has been balancing schoolwork with being an athlete. It takes a lot of time management and hard work.
As a college, we’re starting to focus more on our people being agents of change. What makes you an agent of change?
I feel like I am an agent of change because I am a very positive person. I love lifting others up when times get hard and being there for them to talk through things. I have a passion for helping others, no matter what that looks like.
