Getting to Know You: Dakota Pint

Dakota Pint – Sport Management

Year in school: Senior

What are you studying?

Sport Management with a double minor in business and communication

Hometown: Bozeman, Montana

Why are you studying this? What do you hope to do with it after you graduate?

I am studying Sport Management and got interested in the degree based on my experiences with the athletic department here at WSU. I was a student-athlete for the first two years of my college experience and loved everything about it; I have always enjoyed being a part of a team, the atmosphere, the experiences and the drive everyone shares. I was struggling with finding a real passion of mine to pursue into an education and future career, but after mentioning my love for athletics, my advisor suggested Sport Management. Ever since, I have gained great opportunities, advice and experiences to pursue any future career with this degree. I am planning to go abroad for my internship this summer, and after that I hope to go to graduate school to further my education in either business management or communications. Someday, I hope to work for a large corporation like College Game Day or ESPN.

Why did you choose WSU?

I chose Washington State because I instantly felt at home when I stepped foot on campus. I am from a small college town, therefore the similarity made it a home away from home that I wanted as an out-of-state student. Pullman’s charm, inclusivity and engagement of community drew me in and that’s why I continuously love it here! Additionally, this place felt like I could grow and become someone I have always wanted to be.

What’s been your favorite part of the WSU experience thus far?

My favorite part of the WSU experience is being a COUG! I love the mentality this entire university has, “once a Coug always a Coug”, and “Cougs help Cougs”! The entire community is so inclusive and in every direction there is opportunity to be a part of something bigger than ourselves, and all Cougs take advantage of this. I could not have asked for a better college experience than here at Washington State.

What’s been the biggest challenge so far?

The biggest challenge thus far in my college experience was the time of the COVID-19 outbreak. It was difficult to navigate classes, expectations and relationships in my courses because they were through computers with cameras normally turned off. Actual reactions and expectations were lessened due to the uncertainty of everything, making it hard to really focus on the end goals. However, all my professors, advisors and extra curricular activities constantly put effort into making uncertain-situations comfortable and worthwhile with perseverance and openness. With this challenge from the past year, it makes coming to in-person-class amazing, and I am very excited to be having an actual graduation experience in May because we all deserve this return to normalcy.

As a college, we’re starting to focus more on our people being agents of change. What makes you an agent of change?

In my opinion, being a woman in this department of education makes me an agent of change. In every one of my classes there are slim to no females, therefore I am proud to represent this side of interest in occupation and skill for this department. I strive to make myself heard and my opinions valued, and I know the professors recognize this and find my thoughts useful, which is reassuring.
