Short Bio

Stassia is the Director of TRIO Student Success Programs which house grants funded by the Department of Education at Washington State University, Tri-Cities. She recently wrote two TRIO grants for $2.6 million including a STEM and Health Sciences grant, which has been successfully funded to serve an additional 120 first-generation and limited income students, and individuals with disabilities on the campus who are pursuing STEM and Health Science majors. She has developed a passion for supporting student learning, leading innovative initiatives, and using technology to advance education. Stassia holds a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction, with an emphasis in Reading and Middle Level Mathematics from Washington State University.

Currently, through the same institution she is working on her Ph.D. in Mathematics and Science Education. Her goal is to research topics such as using mobile phone apps and Virtual Reality programs to increase pathways for underrepresented groups in STEM. She is also interested in researching student narratives to find themes that strengthen student resiliency in mathematics.
