University hosting Zoom-based symposium on how to be a productive scholar

By David Blehm, College of Education

Washington State University will host an online symposium on how to be a productive scholar Thursday, March 23, from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The event will be hosted by WSU’s Office of the Provost and the College of Education.

The symposium will consist of advice on research and writing from academics who experienced early publishing success.

Speakers at the event will include Doug Lombardi from the University of Maryland, Erika Patall from the University of Southern California, and Logan Fiorella from the University of Georgia Athens.

More information can be found at the symposium website.

The speakers were part of a group interviewed in a 2022 Chronicles of Higher Education article on the same topic.

Sola Adesope, the College of Education’s associate dean for research and external funding, said both faculty and graduate students will benefit tremendously by attending this symposium.

“This symposium will be beneficial for everyone especially for faculty and graduate students,” he said. “Attendees will learn effective strategies that the speakers have used to be successful in their careers, as well as strategies they have adopted to remain productive.”

Adesope said by the end of the event, attendees will be equipped to adopt virtuous strategies to increase their success and motivation for success in their careers.

“This will be especially true in research, grants, and publications,” he said. “In addition, attendees will learn how to manage competing demands of work and personal commitments.”
