Literacy Scholarship 2015

Overview

What: $4,000 Scholarship

Who: Incoming Graduate Students Pursuing a Literacy Education masters degree and/or Reading Endorsement. Current WSU graduate students are not eligible.

When: Funding begins Fall 2015

 

Application Requirements

1. Apply to the Graduate School

  • For Pullman and Vancouver campuses, select the Literacy Education masters program in the Department of Teaching and Learning.
  • For Spokane and Tri-Cities campuses, select the Curriculum and Instruction masters program in the Department of Teaching and Learning and identify a specialty in Literacy Education.

2. Complete application to the WSU Scholarship Program

3. Write an essay and email it as an attachment to Dr. Jane Kelley at jekelley@wsu.edu .

Essay Directions

Write an essay that addresses one of the following prompts:

  • Explain your reasons for pursuing a Reading Endorsement and/or a masters’ degree in Literacy Education.
  • Describe yourself as a reader/writer.
  • Discuss your beliefs about how to support the literacy development of others.
  • Explain how you might design a reading/writing program.

Essay Parameters

  • 1-2 pages
  • 1 inch margins
  • 12 point Times New Roman
  • 500-600 words
  • Double-spaced

Funding Stipulations

1. The student will receive half of the scholarship in the fall if enrolled in a Reading Endorsement course.

2. Based on a good performance in the fall Reading Endorsement course, the student will receive the second half of the scholarship in the spring if enrolled in a Reading Endorsement course.

3. Good performance is defined as an overall GPA of 3.0 and the Reading Endorsement course grade of A- or higher.
