Instruction

The High School Equivalency Program serves around 100 students per year. Academic instruction is provided daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Language Arts: Writing; Language Arts: Reading; Social Studies, Science, and Mathematics in preparation for taking the GED test.

Career development is provided to assist HEP students in formulating long-range career and educational goals.

Students enrolled in the College of Education and other university students, often serve as mentors and tutors to those enrolled in HEP.

Entry dates

HEP is not accepting applications for 2009-2010 school year. Please check back in spring/summer of 2010 regarding admission for the following school year.

Recruitment

Recruitment continues through the entire calendar year.

The recruiter helps potential students through the application process and answers their questions regarding any aspect of the program.

The recruiter also seeks out people who can help us in our recruitment efforts. We call such people "referral agents" and we supply them with applications and other information about our program.

The recruiter also makes presentations to groups of people throughout the Pacific Northwest

Things to bring

Classes start at 8:10 a.m. You are expected to be on time, so you need to bring an alarm clock.

Depending on the time of year, the weather in pullman can range from very hot to very cold. If you will be coming during the fall and winter months, expect to bring warm clothing such as sweatshirts, long pants, gloves, a winter jacket, warm shoes or boots, etc.

During the spring and summer months, temperatures range from mild to very hot, so bring long pants, sweatshirts, shorts, t-shirts, etc.

We have many rainy days during the fall, winter, and spring months, so plan accordingly.

Dorm roomThe program provides sheets, a blanket, and a pillow with a cover.  If you would like more you will need to bring your own.

There are central men's and women's restrooms and showers on the floor so you will need something to carry your things down the hall. Bring your own towels, washcloths, soap etc.

The university recommends wearing flip-flops in the showers to prevent the transmission of foot diseases and fungus.

There are gyms and swimming pools available.  If you want to take advantage of those you will have to bring the appropriate clothes.

You have to bring your official identification.  You cannot test without it.

Things NOT to bring

Students are not allowed to bring a television or a car to Pullman while they are in the program.

Because WSU has always been a large residential university in a small town, nearly everything that a student might need is on-campus. There is also a free bus system that serves WSU and the city of Pullman.
