Research interests
Nancy Sanders investigates and works on state policies about education leadership and the technical core of schooling; organizational and psychometic issues in standards and accountability reforms; and institutional conflicts over equity, adequacy, and social justice. She currently writes about national leadership standards and professionalization and is analyzing national data on state policies governing professional certification of administrators.
Teaching and professional interests
Dr. Sanders teaches education policy and reforms, education leadership, and research design and methods. She advises policy makers and works with national research groups to improve professionalism and effectiveness of educational leaders, particularly regarding leaders' roles and responsibilities for educational and social justice. Dr. Sanders taught educational leadership and policy for ten years at the University of Colorado. Prior to joining the faculty of WSU Vancouver, she lead nationwide projects about educational administration policies for the Council of Chief State School Officers in Washington, DC. As director of a national consortium of states, she convened policy makers to develop professional performance standards and licensure examinations for administrators and revise the ISLLC Standards for Education Leaders.
