James Howard’s primary interest is school
principal effectiveness and preparation programs.
Teaching/professional interests
Howard currently teaches the core classes in WSU
Spokane’s field-based Principal’s
Certification Program, including Leadership Development
Seminar, Community and Communication, Instructional and
Curricular Leadership, Assessment of Learning, and Law
in Education. Howard also coordinates the program and
conducts site visitation of all principal interns in
the Spokane program. Prior to joining WSU four years
ago, Howard spent 30 years in K-12 public schools, with
four years as an elementary teacher, ten years as an
elementary principal, eight years as a middle school
principal, four years as assistant superintendent, and
four years as superintendent.
